Social Problem

Social Problem

Social Problem

Choose any social problem listed in the textbook that interests you for a final paper topic. Either choose a PowerPoint presentation or Microsoft Word to present in a similar manner of 6 slides (6 pages) to submit as your social problems paper proposal. Be as creative as possible (such as using images or graphs with citations), but remember the purpose of this assignment is to help you begin the much longer final paper due at the end of the quarter.

Slide 1/Page 1 – List your social problem topic and explain why you chose the topic (each chapter covers different social problems)

Slides 2 – 3 List a few interesting statements about the topic from your textbook. For example, if prostitution is my topic, I’ll use a reference or two from Chapter 9

“As also noted earlier, most studies of prostitutes involve streetwalkers, even though they compose only about 20% of all prostitutes” (Social Problems, 2015, p.421).

There are many different types of prostitutes such as escorts, call girls, streetwalkers, and massage employees (Social Problems, 2015).

Slide 4 – Review statistics related to the problem today versus in the past, at least 30 years ago. If possible, use statistics on www.oasis.state.gov.us or another creditable source. (Make sure to cite website/journal used and make sure it is scholarly)

Slide 5 – List the different perspectives on your topic through theory – Functionalism, Conflict, and Symbolic Interactionism. (Remember, use your textbook as a guide or the GMC library.)

Slide 6 List one statement from an external resource, other than your textbook, about society’s response. List the resource. The library website is listed in Moodle. Use it to find a sociological reference to cite in your paper. You can use more than one.

Slide 7 – Cite your references in APA style. A helpful website follows. https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/08/

Final Tips for Writing:

· Use formal academic language (no slang and no contractions)

· Use third person point of view, in other words, do not use “I”

· Proofread your paper before submitting

Note from student: the social problem that I chose is Abortion.
